i LOVE mangos. and yours looks particularly appetizing. i love the whimsy of the whole page. i always find it very difficult (no matter how many people describe my sketches as being dreamlike and ethereal) to be intentionally whimsical. but the whole page somehow just works together beautifully.
Thankyou! the most unexpected results…
i just went back and looked again at the picture. are these several pages overlapped? there are two rips in the middle. i love these puzzles
Well.. hmh [clearing of throat]… the pages are ripped, the title of the post is a play on the title of a song: Tango Della Gelosia (Tango of Jealousy). Some words have been self-censored. Here are the pieces of the puzzles, assemble in whatever manner you wish
the mango watercolor looks philosophical – works wonderful
Elsee – from the land of blue mangoes
How is the mango philosophical? It’s like a poem from Neruda. He would say things like ‘ the stubborn almonds’ [paraphrasing] I am intrigued…
in an ancient oriental tradition – the mango is supposed to get its color from the reflected aura of the solar sungod – and its primitive seed represents the cycle of life and after life – a ripe mango is so malleable……………
its taste attracts – imagine blue mangoes would be strange! reflected from the lunar moon god ….
Sadly when the Indian Mangoes come here they are irradiated …mmmm doesn’t sound safe! and I just found out that until recently Indian mangoes weren’t even allowed in US soil because they could harbor a weevil …so now they nuke them!
Thats tragic – if the oriental mangoes do not sound safe – since most of us grow our own mangoes – as if it were french wine grapes from bordeux…….
a million different kinds …… apparently da vinci too explored them in his vitruvian drawings ……….
the mango riot – is a tribal festival – eating mangoes in a primitive form – satiates the architectural senses – ripe, raw, yellow-orange, green, sour, sweet, pulpy, hard……. many kinds
the ritual of mango eating has a series of codes hidden in them as an entire group eat together without speaking – only gesturing through taste, and eye movements – it is full of ” mango della gelosia” in a mysterious gathering of young men and women of the tribe……..
Elsee-
I have been sort of sleep deprived lately…I commented on the irradiated mangoes because I just saw a sign saying ‘We dont carry irradiated mangoes from India’ at the Berkeley Bowl (where I picked up the mango above)….but I also wanted to thank you for the poetry of the lunar mango, maybe a mango goddess..blue is very yin….in Italy also we have the beautiful blue/purple mangoes with pale green skin inside…I thought of a project, watercolors of all the fruits I can get my hands on, sort of like a nature encyclopedia of old…but then I have so many projects..and I am barely able to finish the ones at hand…such is the life of the archist!
Sketchbloom,
that would be an awesome project – watercolors on the mythology of the fruits of jealosy -
starting with the apple and the fruit of deceipt and mystery -
primitive fruits, the seed that contains all knowledge and germination – elsee

I am so thrilled to see my award-winning book as part of your mango collage. Lilian J. Rice, an amazing lady architect, the world needs to know her. Thank you for helping do just that.
My pleasure…very small contribution, mine. I enjoyed your book presentation through the Women in Architecture group a while back! I also shared her with a student preparing for a speech on women in the profession. Thank you for your work!
